Campo nell'Elba |

Born in 1894 following the separation from the municipality of Marciana, whose coat of arms is still the city symbol, Campo is actually just the name of the town, since there is no country that is called in this way. The most known fractions are Marina di Campo, Cavoli, Fetovaia and Seccheto on the seashore and St. Piero and St. Ilario as hillside villages. The territory is developed on the western side of the massive Monte Capanne, then suffering the effects of the south-west winds, salty air and little rainfall, making it characterized by low Mediterranean vegetation. Very characteristic is the ancient village of Marina di Campo dominated by the Torre Della Marina and then rebuilt in the sixteenth century. Equally fascinating are the hill towns of San Piero and the Church of St. Nicola built on the ruins of a Roman temple dedicated to the god Glaucus, and S. Ilario with the Church of St. Giovanni.. |
